Driving with a Mobile Phone: the Risks and Advantages
The risks of driving with cell phones are insignificant when compared with the other dangers you come across when driving. Dangerous situations, inebriated motorists, snoozing while traveling, and worried drivers can pose still more perils to drivers while traveling.
Dangerous situations
When faced with a critical situation such as a smashup or lawless behavior, cellular phones like Nextel could sustain lives. Wireless services permit drivers to be "good neighbors" to other drivers. The driver can promptly contact 911 and notify lawmen to the scene.
One study performed by Harvard University, noted "that the cost of banning cellular phone use while driving is about $700,000 for each quality-adjusted life year saved. That is 30 times more expensive than achieving the same public health benefit with driver airbags, and ten times more expensive than achieving that benefit by keeping the speed limit on interstate highways at 55 instead of 65 MPH." In accordance to this study, banishing Cingular cell phone use and other suppliers will be more to our disservice than betterment. ( harvard.edu/press/release/press0724000.html )
Inebriated Drivers
Once an intoxicated driver is at liberty to meander the freeway, the threat to other drivers is intensified. The writers at Harvard University have approximated that the standard possibility of being hit by a driver using a cell phone is 6.4 in a 1000000 per annum. "That is 80% less than the average risk of fatality to a driver with a blood alcohol level of .1%." Drivers with wireless phones can automatically contact support so that others can be kept safe.
Snoozing
Thousands of car accidents happen when a driver drops off at the wheel. Most of the time, the individual is by themselves and there is no communication with another traveler. Verizon cell phone users can contact a confidant or wife to pass away the time and
prevent them from slumbering. While using hands-free contraptions, the driver senses that they are simply talking with a traveler. The driver is free to stay wide awake and prevent a smashup.
Fewer concerns
Someone with quick access to a wireless phone like T Mobile can have a mind at ease while driving. What if you have automobile troubles such as a flat tire or run out of gas and a cellular phone can be your life saver. There are no more worries about passionate drivers because someone can preserve themselves
with a call. Guardians can call children at home and be convinced that they are safeguarded. Drivers can also call up to establish for others that they are kept safe and are simply running behind schedule or have a few more appointments to wrap up.
Before we are excessively quick to ban the practice of wireless phones while driving, we had better understand what the ban might potentially cost.
If you had a teenaged daughter driving down the road, would you be more upset about her having the mobile phone or the other concievable perils she may come across on the freeway? On this earth, I wouldn't want my teenagers driving without a wireless phone and
